Youth and Fear vs Experience and Fear

When one thinks of a fearless competitor on the golf course the name of a young Arnold Palmer has to be at the top of the list. "The Charger", "Arnie’s Army" and if you're a golf fanatic as I am, who can forget the final round of the 1960 U.S. Open at Cherry Hills.

Palmer 7 shots back starting the final round tees up on the tricky 313 yard first hole, hitches up his pants in that Palmer fashion, pulls out his driver like a warrior pulling out his sword for battle, then proceeds to defy the hole's design by knocking his tee shot on the green electrifying the gallery as he begins his charge to an amazing victory.  Why is it as youngsters we're fearless and bold and as we get older, the knees start shaking both on and off the course?  Let's explore this.

Psychologists tell us that when we're young we are fearless because we are not conscious of the possible consequences.  That certainly is logical. On the other hand, God tells us in His Word we're to have the faith / belief of a child.  Hmm!

This morning as I write this tip my anxiety level is on the high side to say the least.  Knowing full well how God has stooped in the past to help me, I sit here believing God just can't do it for me this time.  The more I analyze the more paralyzed I become.

In sport, the paralysis of analysis leads to a slump.  In life we call it depression, stress, anxiety, burnout etc.

Following are some child-like thoughts to help you keep life simple - that is if you really believe them.  If your "Doubting Thomas" side is lurking about, ponder the following two questions...

1, Do I know what I REALLY believe?

2. Why do I believe what I believe?
